Where the person making the report has indicated they want to speak to someone, when you fill in a Request Support from an Advisor form, a Report and Support administrator, will assign the case to an advisor. For students, the advisor will be one of our Tackling Harassment Advisors. For staff, cases will be allocated to a Harassment Contact. Each advisor is provided with a login and can only access cases that are assigned to them.

The advisor receives an email notification that a case has been assigned to them – no identifiable information is provided within this email alert. The advisor then logs into Report and Support using their personal login details to access the information provided. They then make contact with the person who has made the report and they arrange a meeting to discuss the report.

What should I include in the form?

The form directs you to provide a summary of the unacceptable behaviour you’ve experienced. You are able to input, what you feel is needed. Please note you do not need to write detailed accounts. This is because we know it can be very difficult to go over the details of what has happened, and we do not want you to experience any unnecessary discomfort or distress.

Following your conversation with the Report and Support team, if you choose to make a formal report for investigation, you will be advised on what formal reporting form to complete. As part of the reporting process, you will have an opportunity to share all your information about what's happened in a supported manner. Your advisor will support you through this process.

What will talking to an adviser be like?

A member of Report and Support team will read your form and contact you at your university email address within five working days. We will suggest a meeting time, and this can be in person, or on Microsoft Teams.  Our in person meetings are held on the University Highfield campus Building 37 The Student Hub or The Wellbeing Centre.

When you meet with us, we can outline your options, both for reporting and support. We can make referrals to external specialists and general support, university services and the disciplinary process if you decide to formally report. We will be ready to listen to you and help you understand your options at your pace.

We want to make sure that at the end of the conversation, you have as much information as you need to make the right decision about your next steps. Unless we have concerns about your safety or the safety of someone else, what you tell us is confidential.

Do I have to decide about making a formal report?

You will not be under any expectation or obligation to make a formal report at any time, this is your decision.

There is no limit to the number of times you can talk to us, though we may refer you to the Wellbeing service if we feel they would be better placed to support you.
